The Craft Room continues...

I'm still a newbie on the blogger scene and yes, I changed the background. 

Continuing where I left off from my last blog, here's another view of the dedicated Cricut section of the room.  Excuse the empty shelves, just as a reminder I am still bringing out my supplies from storage.  From this view, you are peeking at the craft table located in the middle of the room.  This beautiful table was built by husband.  It was originally a door.  He framed it with a white painted piece all the way around it to tie in with the other furniture in the room.  He sanded the living daylights out of the surface and polyurethane the naked wood.  It will be protected by a custom beveled edge glass.   With the glass, it will create a workable surface when we paint and when we use polymer clay.

The base are actually bookcases, but it's a bit plain in the front and my husband has a plan for that.  I can't wait to see how it will turn out.  I love our new craft table and can't wait to use it.

The back has a section where we can store two artist benches and a garbage can.

As you can see towards the back, there is a dresser.  After all, this is a guest room, too.  The dresser is used for more storage.  The deep drawers allow for multiple organizer accessories.  It also matches the two desks.  Because the room only has two windows in the corner, I opted to leave the mirror in the room to reflect the natural light during the day.

The drop down lights above the table have not been installed.

Back across the room behind the door, is where I chose to hang a paint bottle shelf.  With the door closed, you will not see it, but you will know it's there.  I hate to sound like a broken record, but my husband built this shelf because my paints outnumbered the slots on my paint caddies.

I had two caddies which I just recently gave away to good homes through www.freecycle.org, a great way to help others that need something you no longer can use or need. 





This is a collection of acrylic paints I have had for years.

Believe it or not, I used every single one of them.  Americana paints are my favorite to use.  Some of these paints I have had for years and if you keep them properly, they last a very long time.  I know several people say they go bad, but it's the way to store them.

This shelf also houses several other paints.  My daughter uses puff paints as icing for her crafts.  The shelves are also great for the bottles of pigment ink, glitter, flock, dimensional magic, varnishes, glue, etc.

For now, that's it until I figure out what my plan is for the empty wall on the left of the paint shelf.  My next blog will include some of my "creative crafts."

The Craft Room

Recently, I have been wishing for a craft room, where my daughters and I can spend hours in.  After searching pictures in the web images of different craft room organizing ideas and DIY craft rooms, I rolled up my sleeves and talked my husband into my plan. 

First, with my college daughter growing out of her princess white canopy bed, I found a place to move the queen size bed which was in the guest room.  Now that settled the relocation of the bed.  Yay! and Wala!  A guest room is now waiting for a redo.  My thought was, if we do have guests, they can either use my daughter's room with the queen size bed when she is not home and the former guest room can also be used once the EZ portable bed comes in.  If anything, my younger daughter has a twin that converts into a full with the help of a hideaway trundle bed. 

On to the next step.  Planning the craft room and keeping in mind that it can also be converted to a guest bedroom in a whim, I grabbed a pen, researched the web and listed my ideas.  To start, I need plenty of storage room for my paints, stamps, jewelry making accessories, punches, scrapbook papers, inkpads, ribbons, fabric, Cuttlebug, Sizzix, Cricut Expression 2, Personal Cricut, printer, laptop, binding machine, Cricut cartridges, Cuttlebug and Sizzix cartridges, and so on...you get my drift.  I also need a large space to work on with plenty of lighting and a movable work chair.

Luckily, I had two desks with hutches,  several closet cube organizers from my daughters room, three CD towers in the basement being stored.  Hmmm.  So, with a few things additional handmade shelving by my husband and some bought ones, here's what it looks so far.  Of course, I am still in the "loading the room with my supplies mode."

I started at the corner of the room and started building round.  From this view you see the Stamp Shelf my husband made.  Funny he thought he should have made it bigger because my stamp collection grew and grew and grew over the years.  He enjoyed making this shelf - believe it or not - so much so, he felt that a decorative top was in need.  Here's a closer look.

Under the Stamp Shelf is a narrow ledge shelf, where I store all of the ink and stamp cleaners.  To the right of the shelf is a desk where I store my "office" supplies, including the printer and laptop.  (It's not quite organized for show yet.  :)

On the right are clay molds that Anna has collected and used. The collection consists of ones that she bought, as well as ones she made herself. They are used to form her cupcake and food jewelry. 

Smaller stamps were too small for the shelf, so the large mason jars were perfect.

Under the desk is the Scrapbook Paper organizer. I couldn't afford the wood sorter, so I improvised with a cardboard. My husband built a housing so that it will last longer and keep the sorter in its shape. To the right of the desk is an area dedicated to the cricuit machines, large binding machine, Cuttlebug, Sizzix, and small jewelry findings. I have not yet filled the shelves with my supplies, which are right now stored in different places.  

I added two shelves under the top shelf unit.  I filled them with small candy jars that are great for jewelry findings.
